About Me

Design like an artist.
Think like an engineer.

That's my motto. My name is Alex Phelps, and I graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design in May 2021 with my BFA in Graphic Design and minor in Business Management and Entrepreneurship. I have a passion for all things in art, but I have a talent for thinking strategically and empathetically to design solutions that benefit the end-user. I strive to leave a lasting, positive impact on everything I do.

How did I get here?

My decision to go to art school was last minute despite being artistically talented from a young age. Until the very end of high school, I wanted to be an engineer. But something about engineering was unfulfilling to me, so I chose to return to my roots and do art instead. I haven't regretted it since. But even in all the years I've been in school, one question still plagued me: why on earth did I want to be an engineer in the first place? Well, it took me until recently to figure it out.

I wasn't in love with physics, math, or chemistry. I was in love with solving complex problems. And I've found my happy medium in user-centered design.

Where am I now?

My time studying at SCAD has left me with two great loves: graphic design and user-centered design. I love typography, illustration, photography, marketing, a well designed system, and a good challenge. I've had the opportunity to work on two real world projects in school (can you find me in the picture?) for MARTA (Atlanta's public transportation system) and BlackRock. Both projects have left me with strong skills in communication, strategy, and leadership. I even presented to BlackRock's CMO!

Where am I going?

Regardless of where I end up, I hope to do something meaningful, even if it's one small project at a time. I want to leave an impact, and I'm not afraid of any challenges or puzzles that might get in my way.

Do I have your attention now?

Let me show you what I can do.
